Evening Snowshoe Hike on top of Fjellheisen
Combine two of Tromsø’s most popular attractions and join us for an adventurous snowshoe hike on the top of 'Fjellheisen' mountain with a chance of seeing the Northern Lights from the best viewpoint in Tromsø.
We meet at the departure point in Tromsø city center. From there, a private shuttle takes us to Fjellheisen lower station. With permission to skip the queue, we can go straight up to the upper station, 421m above sea level, where our snowshoe hike begins.
We will provide all the snowshoeing equipment and training you need to enjoy this active morning outside. Our experienced guide will accompany you every step of the way, ensuring fun and your safety on the trail. If the northern lights make an appearance, they will also capture an Aurora portrait for you.
After approximately 1 hour on snowshoes, we return to the upper station. Here you can savor a hot drink and sweet pastry outside while we continue to look out for the Northern Lights on the open-air panorama terrace.
After this relaxing moment, we will take the cable car down and a private shuttle bus will bring you back to town.

Good to know
- Fjellheisen Cable Car is expanding their facilities - please expect ongoing construction work at the upper cable car station
- In case of bad weather (high winds, severe storms, etc.), it can happen that Fjellheisen decides to close the cable car for safety reasons, sometimes on very short notice. If this happens, we do our best to keep all our guests and clients informed, and we hold the right to change the location, itinerary or cancel the tour.
- We do not provide winter clothing, only the necessary snowshoeing equipment. Dress appropriately for the weather: the temperature on top of the mountain is usually lower and the winds are stronger than in the city center of Tromsø.
What to bring or wear
- We recommend dressing in warm winter clothing and layers to adjust your clothing to the weather. For example, while walking, you might like to be able to take a layer off & while standing still and enjoying the view, you might want to have an extra layer.
- Be sure your equipment protects you from the wind!
- Bring a hat, a scarf and gloves

- Moderate tours are suitable for those in good physical condition. Everyone on these tours should be able to hike at least 1 hour at a moderate pace with breaks.
- This tour takes place on moderately steep snow-covered terrain between 0 - 20 slope degrees.
